Expansion of HGS

Expansion of HGS

In 2016, the Governing Body agreed with Hertfordshire County Council to the expansion of the school as part of a long term County strategy to ensure sufficient secondary school places are available across the area. It was agreed that the school would enlarge by 1.5fe (forms of entry) from September 2018. allowing an increase in the number of Year 7 places to 210.

Additional classrooms and facilities were needed to accommodate the additional places and the County Council’s Cabinet approved capital funding to support this work which was managed by the school. A new two storey teaching block next to the Sports Hall containing 10 teaching spaces has been constructed, along with a new science laboratory between the current science block and gymnasium,  the dining room has been expanded and a staff car park constructed next to the Highbury Tennis Courts.

Planning approval for the building work was received in June 2017 and the new facilities were opened on time in readiness for September 2018.
