New Sports Hall Update

New Sports Hall Update

We are delighted that work is underway on our new Sports Hall, which will be located on the old, unused tennis courts alongside the lower field.

The new facility comprises a 4 court size sports hall, a dance studio, small fitness room and classroom and is due for completion in November 2017. The building has been funded by a grant from the Education Funding Agency through their Condition Improvement Fund.

Over the Easter holiday the steel frame was erected. At the start of the summer term, some of the student sports representatives were given an update on progress by the Contractors, who also spoke about the careers, roles and skills involved in the design and construction of the building.

During June and July, the concrete floor has been laid, walls added and work has now started on internal partitions.

The construction cost of the Sports Hall is funded by a grant from the Education Funding Agency, following a successful bid in 2016. However, this grant does not cover the cost of the resources and equipment that go into the building. The financial pressures facing schools and the decisions that have had to be made regarding the allocation of budgets has reduced the money available to equip the Sports Hall. We have therefore launched a fund raising appeal to help provide the specialist equipment needed for this exciting new facility including:

  • Basketball, netball and volleyball goals, posts and nets, trampoline rigs, along with scoreboards, timers etc. for the Sports Hall;
  • Wall length mirror and dance barre plus audio visual equipment in the dance studio;
  • Cardiovascular and resistance equipment for the fitness studio.

Support can be given via our 'Buy a Brick' campaign, online donations via’SchoolCharitableTrust, or through individual or corporate donations and sponsorship. Further details are available here.
