SCHOOL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS |

Good afternoon, We marked Martin Luther King Day on Monday, and during the course of the week tutor groups focused on a number of resources about Dr Martin Luther King, and his life and legacy. The resources included these two clips, which you may like to watch and discuss with your child: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewJb8obYOKs and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IB0i6bJIjw. Headstrong this week focused on braille in recognition of World Braille Day - again, this would be a great opportunity to discuss with your child something that they have learned in school, and hopefully they can pass on some new knowledge to you too. This week Year 11s have started to collect their stamps for attending revision sessions, and it has been incredibly pleasing to hear their discussions about the schedules they have planned for themselves. Taking a slow and steady approach to revisions will really pay off come the summer exams, so do encourage your child to take up as many opportunities as possible with regard to the additional support on offer. With the added incentive of the 'Passport to the Prom', there is much to be gained with a consistently positive approach to studying in these final few months. It is a busy week next week with a theatre trip for Year 13 Drama students, the 'Get Ready for Work Day' for Year 11 on Thursday, and a Year 11 History trip on Friday - so, much to look forward to. Finally from me, could I please remind all parents and carers that if students are driven to school in the morning they must be dropped off well away from the school - the school car parks are not to be used, nor should any vehicle be stopping on the zigzag lines. There have been repeated requests for this and this potentially dangerous behaviour is continuing. For the safety of all of our students I politely request that this guidance is adhered to. Thank you in advance. Have a good weekend, James Crowther, Headteacher |

Dropping off student belongingsWe have had an increasing number of parents dropping off PE kits and other required items throughout the school day. Students are asked to check they are bringing everything they need for the day as office staff cannot always be available to receive and distribute forgotten items. |

Y6-7 transition conferenceEight of our Year 7 students took part in the Y6-7 Conference at The Priory School this morning. This included presentations from TPS, HBS and HGS students about life in Year 7, and then after squash and biscuits, there was the chance for the Year 6 pupils representing their primary schools to ask questions on everything they need to know about secondary school. The Y6 students have returned to their respective schools this afternoon to feed back their research to their peers. This event is an important part of the transition process, helping Y6 students to feel prepared for their September move. Our Y7 students were fantastic ambassadors for HGS, delivering their presentation clearly and answering a variety of questions confidently. |

Medic Mentor's virtual work experiences provide students with valuable insights and opportunities that may be otherwise difficult to access. Developed in collaboration with Birmingham University Hospitals Trust, this virtual work experience has proven to be transformative for thousands of secondary school students over the past year. It goes beyond being just an alternative to in-person shadowing; it is a crucial step in preparing students for their upcoming physical placements.
Medic Mentor have designed a 6-month medical e-learning work experience programme, focusing on one specialism each month, allowing students to set their own pace of learning. From structured teaching to direct interaction with doctors and healthcare professionals, the programme ensures students not only observe procedures but also gain a broader understanding of roles within the medical field.
Covering everything from ethics to procedures and broader team roles, this virtual work experience provides an overview of students' desired career paths and the skills that medical professionals are looking for, thereby enhancing their UCAS applications. Find out more and apply
