These paid placements give students the opportunity to check out STEM careers, make informed decisions about which study or career path to take, and can lead to sponsorship or apprenticeship opportunities. They will also have access to additional mentor support, one-day masterclasses and industrial accreditation.

This is a cutting-edge technology development consultancy specialising in devices within regulated markets. Their main work is in the field of innovative medical devices, health projects service and less-invasive devices in surgical practices, or early-stage treatment innovation. Job Title: Year in Industry Placement - Engineer 

Role type: School Leaver, Pre-university

Start/ duration: 1 September 2024 – 30 August 2025 (12 months)

Disciplines: applying for or already studying engineering, physics, materials science, or a related subject at university and be strong academically with good physics and maths A levels.

Job Description:

The role will include research into new technologies and helping the team to build and test prototypes in their laboratory. You will gain experience in getting new technologies to work and discover the criteria that make commercially driven R&D projects successful. You will discover how new products can be developed to overcome challenges in usability, business requirements, manufacture, and regulatory approval.

As a member of one of the teams, working directly on client-facing projects, you will learn how to write technical reports and prepare information for presentation to clients. Depending upon which projects arise, there may be opportunities to take part in client meetings and phone calls. There are likely to be opportunities to take part in training and personal development alongside permanent staff. Furthermore, the company will provide hands-on support during the placement, including mentoring from senior members of staff.

Required qualifications and skills for applicants:

Students applying to study or studying an engineering subject, physics, materials science, or a related subject at university and be strong academically with good physics and maths A levels. The company is proud of its excellent quality engineering, and so they look for diligent staff who like working in a team. You will be keen to learn, motivated, conscientious and able to demonstrate an aptitude for practical work.

Come and join us at the first ever CGT Circle workshop! Hosted by MFX, Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst and with the expertise of The Honeycomb Works!

The Honeycomb Works will be providing an interactive workshop focusing on the evidence around how to build and sustain truly inclusive cultures.

This two-hour session will start with a lightning talk exploring the science of belonging with a particular focus on the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.

Next there’ll be a panel with founders and people working in startups who are putting inclusion into action while dealing with the pressure of getting funded and changing the world for the better.

Finally you’ll have an opportunity to put some of the ideas shared into action in a highly interactive, collaborative workshop session.

You'll l get a chance to discuss this topic with those in your group and you’ll leave with a really tangible understanding of what you can to do to start building an inclusive culture.

Expect an afternoon of learning and fun intermingled with networking and afternoon tea!

FURTHER & HIGHER EDUCATION






Medic Mentor's virtual work experiences provide students with valuable insights and opportunities that may be otherwise difficult to access. Developed in collaboration with Birmingham University Hospitals Trust, this virtual work experience has proven to be transformative for thousands of secondary school students over the past year. It goes beyond being just an alternative to in-person shadowing; it is a crucial step in preparing students for their upcoming physical placements.

Medic Mentor have designed a 6-month medical e-learning work experience programme, focusing on one specialism each month, allowing students to set their own pace of learning. From structured teaching to direct interaction with doctors and healthcare professionals, the programme ensures students not only observe procedures but also gain a broader understanding of roles within the medical field.

Covering everything from ethics to procedures and broader team roles, this virtual work experience provides an overview of students' desired career paths and the skills that medical professionals are looking for, thereby enhancing their UCAS applications.
