Unifrog and JED - essential careers websites

Hitchin Girls' School uses Unifrog and JED - these are online careers platforms that help secondary schools deliver their statutory duty to provide students with impartial and independent guidance on the full range of post-school options. 
 
JED - Job Explorer Database
This site is aimed more at Key stage 3 students and is used in Learning for Life lessons. It has a 'Suits Me' careers quiz and extensive information on jobs and careers. This can be accessed via https://sites.google.com/hgs.herts.sch.uk/careerszone/home
 
Unifrog
The site hosts a variety of quizzes that help with career exploration. It also enables the user to compare every undergraduate university course in the UK as well as international opportunities. Additionally, the Unifrog platform allows students to access details of Further Education courses (for technical qualifications) and has the most comprehensive list of apprenticeships available across the country, including Higher, School Leaver and Degree apprenticeships.

All students in Years 7 - 13 have access to this website. They have their own logins but parents can also register and create their own account via:

Future Financial Adviser is a digital community providing career advice, peer-to-peer connections, mentors, events, and career opportunities within the financial-advice sector.

Paediatric Pathways

The NHS Virtual Allied Healthcare Work Experience offers a unique opportunity for aspiring healthcare professionals. It's a rare occasion for students to hear from an exceptional guest speaker with a wealth of knowledge and insights to share, to better the understanding of the allied healthcare field.

Our speaker will provide invaluable guidance to help these future professionals embark on their dream healthcare careers. Following the talk, students will have an intimate look at the healthcare industry in the LIVE virtual work experience, delving into the many roles allied healthcare has to offer and taking an in-depth look at patient care by following the journeys of two patients from incident through to treatment.

The NHS Allied Healthcare Work Experience is the largest programme for aspiring healthcare professionals, having successfully invited over 12,000 students to participate in its programme last academic year - many of which have gone on to study:

Nursing
Midwifery
Paramedicine
Physiotherapy
Occupational Therapy
Dietetics
Radiography
Prosthetics and Orthotics
Speech and Language Therapy
Pharmacy

Places are £10 a session to cover administrative and technological costs, or £50 for the full 6 months (rolling programme).

FURTHER & HIGHER EDUCATION





Lucy Cavendish Academic Attainment Programme
The programme will begin in November 2024. In Year 12, students will participate in regular subject-specific enrichment classes in each of their core A-Level  subjects, subject taster sessions, and monthly Peer Discussion Groups, allowing them to continuously develop their subject-specific knowledge, as well as their oracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students will also complete a Supracurricular Exploration Project in May, helping them to explore their subject interests further and think more seriously about possible degree choices. Throughout, students will also receive advice from our Admissions Team on every stage of the application process so that they can make their university applications as competitive as possible.

Girton Modern Languages Taster Day 
Girton College are hosting a Modern Languages Taster Day on Wednesday 16 October for those currently in Year 10 or 11 at schools in the UK, running 10:00-16:00. The day will include translation, culture, and language workshops led by Girton and MML Faculty Academics, and promises to be a fantastic day for those looking to explore languages at A Level and University level.

Magdalene Application Support Webinars
Magdalene College is running a series of information and Q&A webinars to help support you with your application. A member of the admissions team will offer guidance on both admissions assessments and interviews, tailored to specific courses. This will include both the pre-registered admissions assessments such as the LNAT, and College registered admissions tests. Students will be informed of deadlines, revision material, and test format.

This webinar series is an exciting interdisciplinary opportunity to delve into the range of lesser-known arts & humanities courses offered at university, with special focus on courses taught at the University of Cambridge. Thinking Uni

Thinking Black is relaunching Thinking Uni, a series of online workshops for black Sixth Formers run in conjunction with Jesus College, Oxford University. 

The programme is entirely free and will run online from 21 September, 2024 until 14 March, 2025. It is open to state-school students of black (including mixed-black) heritage in Years 12 and 13.

Sessions will cover:

There are two tracks:

Thinking Uni Standard Track
(applications close 18 September)

These students will receive access to five online live sessions, recordings, written feedback on their personal statements, and an invitation to visit Oxford University in the summer. 


Aspire Track
(applications close 14 September)

An additional 50 students will be selected for enhanced support, which includes one-to-one tutorial sessions with graduate mentors. 
These sessions provide detailed feedback on personal statements, super-curricular advice, and interview preparation.
