The Telegraph Media Group Media Literacy Programme 

March 2026

Applications now open

The programme aims to break down the barriers to careers in journalism and provide school pupils with the tools and skills to think critically about the media landscape.

It gives an insight into what it’s like to be a journalist at an award-winning multimedia news brand. The programme is open to all 16-18-year-olds across the UK.

The online sessions will be with a range of Telegraph journalists from departments including news, sports, beauty, music and social media. Participants will have the opportunity to learn news skills such as headline writing, interviewing and travel writing, and win prizes. 

The programme will run for four weeks, beginning on Tuesday 3 March 2026. Sessions will take place online from 4.00 to 5.10pm every Tuesday. At the end of the programme, each student will receive a Telegraph Media Literacy Journalism Certificate.

As part of their application, students will need to complete a short cover letter outlining why they wish to participate in the programme.

Event: UK’s Intelligence Agencies – Virtual Insight Session
Date: Thursday 27 November 
Time: 11:00am – 12:00pm
Format: Online event

The UK’s Intelligence Agencies - MI5, MI6, and GCHQ - work together to keep the country safe, using cutting-edge techniques to prevent threats both in the UK and globally. This session will provide students with valuable insights into these vital organisations and the wide range of early career opportunities they offer, including apprenticeships and junior development programmes.

How to apply:
Students can apply for this online event through their Uptree account. If they do not yet have an account, they can register here.

Please note: Priority will be given to students who meet the eligibility criteria listed on the Uptree website. Applications will be reviewed from two weeks before the event, and successful students will receive their invitation 1–2 weeks in advance.

11-Up Online Programme

Application deadline: Midday on Friday 5 December 2025

Caius 11Up is a series of after-school online sessions during which students will gain help researching university courses and engaging with super-curricular activities. They will also hear about student life from current students. By taking part in this programme, we hope students will improve their confidence and knowledge in applying to selective universities, and more specifically to Cambridge. Please see the Caius 11Up programme below:

Programme Sessions:

  • Wednesday 14 January 2026 (4:30-5:30pm): Introduction to Oxbridge and other competitive universities
     
  • Wednesday 28 January 2026 (4:30-5:30pm): A level choice and researching university courses
     
  • Wednesday 11 February 2026 (4:30-5:30pm): Reading around your subject - super-curricular activities.
     
  • Wednesday 25 February 2026 (4.30-5.30pm): Student Life at Cambridge- Virtual tour, Day in the Life and Student Q&A 
     
  • Wednesday 11 March 2026 (4.30-5.30pm): Application process including personal statements, admissions test and interviews

Students should register their interest by completing this short form no later than midday on Friday 5 December.

Students will be notified by Monday 5 January 2026 whether they have been successful in gaining a place on the programme. They welcome applications from all students and they will prioritise applications from high-achieving students with a widening participation background (e.g. Free School Meals, living in care).
