Message from the Headteacher

Good morning.

We have reached the end of term, and it has been a term filled with amazing opportunities and experiences, as you will see from the content below.

On Wednesday evening this week I had the pleasure of attending the Science Fair, which was truly an inspiring event. The energy and enthusiasm emanating from the students was simply wonderful, and their presentations were creative, engaging and informative. I'd like to thank all of the students, staff and parents involved - it was a great way to finish the term.

We have two residential trips taking place over the break - the Classics trip to Greece and the ski trip to Andorra. I wish everyone safe travels and I look forward to hearing all about it when they return.

This break will see our Year 11 and Year 13 students studying hard for their upcoming exams. I wish them and their families all the best - I know how much of a team effort it is at home to support study at this time. Please do ensure your child takes breaks and manages their work sensibly, as this will really help them to manage the exam season that lies ahead. Good luck!!!

We are saying goodbye to some members of staff: Mr Mollison has completed his maternity cover and moves onto a new role; Mr Whittle (Careers Advisor) is retiring; Mrs Jones (IT Technician) is retiring; Mr McHugh (Site Manager) has moved to a new job; and Mr Hankin (Director of Finance and Resources) is also retiring. I am sure you will join me in wishing them all the very best for the future and thanking them for their contributions to life at the school. Mr Hankin has been in his role for nearly 19 years - he has worked with three Headteachers and has overseen a tremendous transformation of the school site and facilities available to our students. He leaves a lasting legacy - Thank you Mr Hankin!

Next term I will be revealing the new school values - I will be holding assemblies with all students during the first week back, so please do speak with them about the values that I outline. I'm really excited to be sharing them.

Do remember that we have an INSET day on Monday 17th April.  I look forward to welcoming all students back on Tuesday April 18th.

Finally, this break is a time of celebration and I wish you Ramadan Mubarak and Happy Easter. Have a great break everyone.

James Crowther

HOUSE NEWS

Austen

Austen House has been working really hard this term, gathering lots of positive behaviour points and working together to plan our fundraising event - a teachers' five-aside football match to raise money for our House charity, The Pantry. Many students in Austen have also been busy working towards personal achievements. Here are some of the successes shared by the form prefects:

"7A have won the netball tournament, and we have been getting the most House points and have had very few negative points! We are also fighting for 3rd place in the hockey tournament. Individually, Brooke came 11th in the England dance duos and Neve came 16th in the cross-country race for school. There have been so many amazing achievements this term!"

"There have been lots of excellent results in 8A. Olivia passed her karate grading, earning purple double white stripe with a brown tag. Molly and Tilly came 3rd in their netball league, and Keira made it to the quarter finals in her football league. Sasha finished making a crochet scarf for her grandma and came 3rd in a knitting competition. Many of 8A participated in the Gym Competition and came 2nd! Well done 8A!"

"9A has achievements to share in a wide range of things, from sports to music to academics. Our form took part in the Talk the Talk activity where we had a wonderful opportunity to express our opinions on our own subjects to the class by giving a speech. We all received certificates and even some Headteacher's Awards for gaining skills (like interacting with other people and performing confidently in front of crowds), and for participating extremely well during the workshop.

Academically, individuals took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge in which some of us gained Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates, and Isabel took part in the Oxford Computing Challenge. In addition, many people passed their music exams, specifically in keyboard, where Kezia did her Grade 7, and in clarinet, where Izzi achieved a distinction in her Grade 3 exam.

We also had a lot of accomplishments in sport, especially in dance where exams were passed, and Rita and Elena performed in a show for Dance Steps Academy at the Gordon Craig in Stevenage. Additionally, Evie has managed to make the hall of fame in karting, where she beat her personal best time of 27 seconds around the track. Overall our form group have had a lot of successes this term and we are really looking forward to the next one!"

"In 10A, we have won certificates for the most positive BFL points and the least negative BFL points. Grace S has walked and navigated 6km using maps, and Emma M has been busy volunteering for the Riding for the Disabled Association. Grace W took part in the Recycled Fashion Show at St Christopher’s, and Daisy has taken part in Project Polyglot, where she taught primary school students French. As a form, we have been organising the Austen charity football match and are currently starting to revise for our mock GCSEs."

"In 11A, this term has been a very active and successful one. We have been working hard towards getting the best grades in our GCSEs, which are only around the corner. Sports Leaders completed their final assessment for Year 11 by setting up a festival for Whitehill pupils, which was a huge success as every child left with a smile on their face. Karina ran 10k for Cancer Research, which we are all proud of her for. Becca auditioned for a dance college, Stage Right, and got in! This is a huge achievement and we can’t wait to see where this takes her in the future. Sophie is excelling in hockey, and has been winning game after game. Maddie passed her Grade 6 flute exam recently with flying colours. Sesadi and Sonadi also won 1st place in Hertfordshire’s Synchronised Diving! Overall, we have had an amazing term!"

As head of Austen, I would also like to say a huge thank you to the Year 12 and Year 13 prefects who have been busy supporting all younger year groups in organising charity events, adverts and assemblies. I want to especially thank our Year 13 prefects - Khaela, Malika, Mary and Niamh - who have been incredible role models during such a busy and important year. We are so proud of you and wish you all the best in your A Levels next term!

Miss Plunkett, Head of Austen House

Bronte

Bronte have had an excellent term. We are in a close 3rd place for reward points across the whole year. Thanks to everyone for your hard work and good behaviour choices.

Out of the classroom, most recently, 7B won the House Hockey League and came 2nd in the Gym Competition! Massive congratulations to the whole form and thank you to the cheerleaders. 7B and 8B combined came 4th in the Gym Competition. A particular well done to Libby in 7B who won the individual competition and the rest of 7B for coming 2nd place in Year 7.

9B made a fantastic impression on Talk the Talk day, with a number receiving Headteacher’s Awards for their ideas and speeches. 10B also took part in the Tesco World of Work Day on 10 March and received high praise for their presentations.

Year 11 and Year 13 are preparing to go on study leave, so I would like to wish them luck for their exams. And thank you to Ruby, Paris and Bethan for their help as part of Bronte’s prefect team.

A huge shout-out to Nora in 7B: she is writing a monthly eco letter with puzzles, craft ideas, eco swaps and eco news, with her friend in 7A! Get in touch with Nora to subscribe for ideas to help the environment.

By the time you read this, we will have hosted our charity event for this term. All proceeds from Bronte’s karaoke event go towards Cancer Research UK, so thank you for your support, donations and singing! Our next big idea is Bronte’s Catwalk for Cancer. Students will be designing and making outfits for teachers to model at a fashion show in the Autumn term, so we may be asking for fabric donations later in the year.

I am looking forward to the Summer term, when we will have Sports Day, Enterprise Fortnight, Form Running, the Gym and Dance display and reward trips!

Mrs Zamblera, Head of Bronte House

Curie

Over the past few weeks, Curie has done exceptionally well by raising money for charity and supporting many different events. Curie is currently 3rd place out of the eight Houses. We have outdone ourselves this year by organising a staff charity dodgeball game, which was supported massively across the school.

We followed the success of this with our charity event this month, which included a second-hand clothes stall to combat fast fashion, Fairtrade hot chocolate and 'name a tree in school'. These were linked to the fabulous Eco Club that Mr Buckridge is involved with, to help raise awareness of environmental issues in our school community.

Individually, each form in the lower years has a Star of the Form. These are as follows: Islay in Year 7, Lila in Year 8, Jessica in Year 9, Ava M in Year 10 and finally Abigail F in Year 11! A huge congratulations to these students for their hard work this term.

Curie has a great chance, after our charity event and the Years 7 & 8 Gym Competition, to hit that top spot and become 1st out of all the Houses by the end of the school year!! We are hoping that, with hard work and collaboration, we can get to this point and make ourselves proud as a House!

Sophie Hankin, Head Prefect

It has been a fantastic term and it has been wonderful to see our House working with other groups in the school to raise money and awareness for key issues, such as the environment. Curie students have also done a great job representing their House at various sporting and non-sporting events. As this term closes out I would like to say a huge thank you to the three Year 13 Curie Prefects. Sophie, Estelle and Eliza have worked tirelessly to manage many of the events we have run. I wish them and the rest of Year 13 the best of luck with their exams in the summer!!

Mr Backhouse, Head of Curie House

Frank

Frank House has had another brilliant term! The prefect teams have continued to work hard to organise, lead and support a range of House activities and deserve a huge well done. Every single student has had a role in our success this term, but there are a few achievements in particular that deserve to be highlighted.

This term's charity event saw pupils get the opportunity to travel deep below the sea, to an island paradise or to a galaxy far, far away, all without leaving the Lower School Hall! The Frank House Photo Booth not only raised money for Make A Wish UK but also allowed students to make some great memories. A big thank you to all the Sixth Form and charity prefects who helped organise and run the event.

It was the Year 7s and 8s' turn to battle it out in the House League this term, competing in the netball and hockey finals; congratulations to 7F for finishing 2nd and 8F for finishing 3rd. These two year groups were kept particularly busy this term, also taking part in the Gym Competition - their effort and enthusiasm were second to none. Also making their House proud, the Year 9s participated in the Talk the Talk workshop and the Year 10s in a careers event supported by Tesco. All year groups continue to rake in the reward points, highlighting an excellent approach and attitude to their learning.

As we near exam season, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Year 11 and Year 13 students all the very best with their GCSEs and A Levels. Lastly, a huge thank you to Alana, Poppy and Isabella for all their hard work and contribution to Frank House as prefects this year.

Once again, a huge well done to everyone in Frank House, have a wonderful Easter break and let's continue to build on our achievements next term!

Miss Mills, Head of Frank House

Jewel

Jewel House have had another fantastic term. There was notable success from our Year 7 gymnasts who achieved 1st place in their bracket – well done them!

Our amazing Sixth Form prefect team have also coordinated two fantastic charity events. The first was 'Jewel Just Dance', which took place in the Sports Hall, where students were given the opportunity to dance along to their favourite tunes. Who knew California Gurls was released in 2010?! Thirteen years ago! Still a fan favourite it seems… particularly for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.

The team also organised a 'Chocolate Egg Delivery Service' for which they sourced, designed and delivered personalised eggs to students and staff. Well over 100 eggs have been ordered for this – amazing work. These events have already raised significant amounts for Samaritans Hitchin, making this Charity Month an undoubted success.

Alongside this, students in our House have learnt about the life and times of Jewel Plummer-Cobb in assemblies. They have also been given the chance to design their own “Woman of the Month” activity to be shared with the House, which focuses on celebrating lesser-known women and their achievements.

Mr Derrett, Head of Jewel House

Pankhurst

It has been a busy term for Pankhurst with lots of hard work and achievements from our students. Their effort and motivation have paid off and Pankhurst have seen a meteoric rise in their reward points standing!

Individually, students have been busy in their own endeavours as well. Lara in Year 10 achieved Grade 5 in both her piano and singing exams - well done Lara! And in Year 8 Matilda is taking part in a county-level swimming gala representing Hertfordshire.

In school, both Farah (10P) and Lily (7P) gained the most reward points in the year, for their positive engagement and effort in lessons. Congratulations to Maddy (7P), Florence (8P), Ava (9P), Hannah (10P), Farah and Neve (10P), and all of Year 11. Your form tutors have been noticing your hard work around the school, in lessons, in form time and in extracurricular activities. These students were chosen as their form tutors' Stars of the Term! Well done also to students across the years for excelling in their academic studies. Seventeen students were awarded the Star of the Term in a variety of subjects.

Pankhurst ran a charity fair and bake sale this term, raising money for our chosen charity, Make Lunch, based in Letchworth. A special thanks to Farah, Hannah, Neve, Elise (9P), Anouska (9P), Phoebe W (7P) and Holly (7P) for playing a big role in planning, producing and distributing posters, and hosting the events.

Mr Beardmore-Crowther, Head of Pankhurst House

Rosa

Miss Murch, Head of Rosa House

Teresa

Teresa House has had a really busy Spring term with lots going on for students to get involved with. Following the great success of Autumn term's charity movie night, we wanted to do one better, and this time round the Teresa prefects decided on a ‘thrift sale’, which I was informed is a modern, cooler term for a ‘jumble sale’...

With a lot of people having their spring clear-outs at home we asked students from all year groups to donate any unwanted clothing to the cause. We were delighted by the uptake, we ended up having a lot to sell on the day and we welcomed hundreds of students through the doors, raising an amazing £144.20! This will be added to Autumn term's total and we still have the Summer term to add to it as well, for our amazing charity Heathlands Animal Sanctuary. Well done all!

We have other things to celebrate too, with many of our students participating in sporting events to great success across football, hockey and netball. Most recently, Teresa students competed to a very good standard in the Gymnastics Competition. We have also had success across the academic fields with our Sixth Form students winning the Senior Maths Challenge at the start of the year.

What a fantastic term, and well done to all of those who stepped up and got involved. Also a big well done to all those who were awarded certificates in the end-of-term assembly.

We have a lot of great things to look forward to in the Summer term, including Form Running, Enterprise Day and maybe some more House events! We wish you all a fantastic Easter break and see you next term.

Mr Pateman, Head of Teresa House

DEPARTMENT NEWS

In KS3 Latin, we have spent this term learning more about Caecilius, his family and their life in and ex horto. Year 7 students immersed themselves in the materials on their Chromebooks and ‘attended’ a Roman dinner party. Year 8 students are now learning about the ancient Roman slavery and beliefs in life after death. Year 9 students have moved on from Pompeii and have been learning about life in Roman Britain.

In Ancient Civilisations, Year 7 have enjoyed engaging with the War with Troy story and the new blended learning approach using the Chromebooks. They have made some lovely character diary entries, illustrations of new shields for Achilles and cartoon strips of the action. Year 8 have studied the Egyptians and are now starting to learn about the Minoan civilisation and mythology. The students have taken part in some wonderful discussions, demonstrating that they have really understood why the Egyptian and Minoan civilisations were so advanced and how they influenced each other's cultures. Year 9 students are continuing their study on the Romans - having studied the collapse of the Roman Republic they are now starting to look at the development of the age of empire.

In KS4, Year 10 Latin students have continued to make great progress in their GCSE course, and have been studying some of Pliny’s letters and poetry by Ovid to explore Roman attitudes to love and marriage. In their language work they have continued with the shenanigans of the cast of the Cambridge Latin Course Book 3. Year 11 Latin students have finished their course and are now practising exam technique and revising the topics.

Year 10 Ancient History students continue to show enthusiasm for the topics and have developed discussions about the themes of Ancient Greece and Persia. Year 11 Ancient History are finishing their course content for the Roman world now, and are revising and practising exam techniques.

In Year 12, our Latin and Ancient Civilisation students have continued with enthusiasm to study their respective courses. Well done to the Year 13 Latin and Ancient Civilisation students on their well-earned mock examination results, which show great promise for their performance in the summer. We continue to be impressed by their professional attitudes to learning and mature approaches.

Classical extracurricular activities continue, with KS3 Classics Club, Minimus Junior Latin Club, and Beginners’ Ancient Greek and Intermediate Ancient Greek. In Beginners’ Greek we have just finished the story of Basil Batrakhos, and Classics Club have been showing fantastic creativity and exploring different areas of the Ancient World. In Minimus, students from local primary schools have been learning Latin (and communicating in Latin) through stories, games and artwork.

We are delighted that this Easter sees the return of our annual Classics Trip - a group of students from Years 10-13 will be embarking on a four-centre tour of Greece, taking in a range of ancient sites, including the Acropolis, Delphi, Olympia and a selection of Greek Theatres and Mycenaean Palaces.  Staff and students are all very excited.

The HGS Senior Classics Society stunned audiences with this year's Classics Play 'Hades’ Guide to Finding Love-ish', which was written and produced by our Year 13 students Bethan, Poppy and Kara. The department and audience were so impressed with all their hard work and the magnificent show that they staged. We raised £350 for the Sparkles Charity at the two performances.

We welcomed one Classics trainee teacher from Cambridge University into the department this term, Miss Mistry. The students appreciate her enthusiasm and interesting activities.

Earlier in the term Mrs Coe gave a lecture to trainee teachers at the Cambridge University Faculty of Education on approaches to teaching ancient epic at KS3. Early next term she will be presenting her latest educational research at the 125th annual Classical Association Conference, which is this year being held at Cambridge University.

Mrs Rowe, Head of Classics

Year 9 have been working on a new jewellery project this term up in Product Design, and the work has been incredible!

Here is just a small sample of the amazing work they have produced so far:

Year 11 English Literature trip to GCSE Poetry Live in Cambridge

Going to Poetry Live was a wonderful experience.  It helped to give us a better insight into some of the language used in the poems we are studying for our upcoming exams.

We got to see some of the amazing poets in our anthology, for example Carol Ann Duffy, Daljit Nagra and Owen Sheers. It was so interesting to see first-hand how the poets wanted their readers to feel through the tone they created in their poems.

We were able to understand more of the background and contexts of the poetry, allowing us to broaden our ideas when analysing the poems. We also got to hear from some other great poets who are not in our part of the anthology, but who helped to better our understanding of how poets think when crafting their work.

Overall, it was a brilliant and eye-opening experience that really helped to develop our knowledge of the poems, which will help us in the final exams. Thanks for a great trip, especially to Mrs Labinjo for organising!

Sophia and Sanaa, Year 11

It’s been a busy term in the Library. We celebrated World Book Day with a book fair from David’s Bookshop and a charity cake sale. Every class from Year 7 to Year 10 visited during the day to receive their £1 token and browse the titles. Lots of students took the opportunity to buy a book, with the Library receiving a percentage of each sale to spend on new stock.

At break and lunchtime we held a very successful cake sale, which saw students queueing all the way down the stairs! We raised an amazing £468 for World Book Day and Book Aid. Thank you to all who baked, helped on the stall and bought the wonderful cakes.

Students from the Reading Group took part in the North Herts Schools Book Awards again this year. They visited The Highfield School in Letchworth to talk about the shortlisted books and vote for the two winners. These were 'Fake' by Ele Fountain for the younger group, and 'Why is Nobody Laughing?' by Yasmin Rahman for the older category. Author Elle McNicoll, who won last year with her book 'A Kind of Spark', gave a talk and signed books for the students.

The Library has been looking bright and colourful this term thanks to the book review bags and skeleton pictures made by Years 7 and 8 in their Library lessons. The Reading Group also decorated their corner with rabbits for Chinese New Year and eggs for Easter.

Our evening book group for parents, carers and friends of the school met for an enjoyable discussion of Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. We welcome new members - please look out for details of our next meeting in the weekly newsletter.

We would like to thank our parent volunteers and student librarians who assist us at lunchtimes. Your help is very much appreciated.

And finally, we’ve got lots of brilliant new books arriving in the Library next term, so look out for news of when they will be on display and come and take a look.

We look forward to seeing you all in the Library next term.

Mrs Goose and Mrs Woods

Year 8 Spanish

Students put themselves in the shoes of their favourite celebrities and described themselves on a poster! They were able to use all their Spanish vocabulary of physical characteristics and personality traits to give us a little taste of the world of fame! Their posters were so well designed, they had to go up on Miss Benmoussa's WOW wall.

Project Polyglot

Our Year 10 Project Polyglot students have all now taught their first language lessons at William Ransom and Wilshere-Dacre primary schools.  Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils at both schools have enjoyed French and Spanish lessons covering a range of topics, including what's in your pencil case, rooms in your house, the seasons, clothing, animals and colours. The lessons contained some innovative teaching, incorporating games, movement and songs.

Our students are looking forward to going back to teach their second  lessons at the primary schools next term, and are developing some very creative lesson content. We look forward to seeing the results!

The Spring term is a great opportunity for our students to put all they have been working on into action in competitions and tournaments. It’s been another busy but successful term. Thank you to each and every student who has come along to clubs and fixtures, it’s been great to see your progress and well done on some brilliant performances. Thank you also to the PE team, for their hard work and dedication, to enable our students to have so many opportunities to train and perform across a range of sports.

Years 7 and 8 Gym Competition

It was an absolute delight to see the whole of Years 7 and 8 competing in the annual Gymnastics Competition, an HGS tradition that started 109 years ago! We invited three former members of the PE department to be our professional judges (collectively having watched over 90 Gym Competitions), who did a sterling job! Performing in front of the whole year group is no easy task, but students demonstrated their gymnastic skills and teamwork throughout the day, doing their Houses proud. Jewel House were the winners of the Year 7 competition, and Rosa in Year 8. Overall House winners were Curie! Well done!

Dance

Miss Connolly choreographed a wonderful dance for the County Dance Festival in March. Congratulations and a big thank you to Libby, Amelie, Lola, Bibi, Becca, Lily, Daisy, Evie, Erin and Lotte for their fantastic performances at the Alban Arena and for their outstanding commitment to creating and rehearsing the piece.

Thank you also to our Y11 GCSE dancers for a delightful Evening of Dance, showcasing their set phrases and choreographed pieces. We wish them all the very best as they perform their practical exam.

Trampoline

Our trampolinists have been travelling the country competing in the BSGA National Schools Competition. In January they went to Hinckley for the Zonal round, where both Inter teams finished in 1st place, qualifying for the national finals. The Novice team finished in a commendable 5th place.

All students competing as individuals produced very commendable performances, Izzy W and Rowan S qualifying for the national finals.

In March the gymnasts travelled to Northampton for the finals, and medals and trophies were brought back! Years 7-9 Inter team (Freya W, Izzy W and Mirelle R) finished in 8th place overall. Years 10-14 Inter team (Eve S, Chloe L and Lily B) were crowned National Champions. Rowan finished 7th overall in a tough Novice category and Izzy finished 3rd. Well done everyone! Great achievements!

A big thank you to Mrs Edwards for organising the teams so well and going to all three weekend competitions. Thank you also to parents for their support, and to Miss Jacobs for coming to help score.

Sports Hall Athletics

In the District Sports Hall Athletics Competition, Year 7 finished in 3rd place and Year 8 won the Gold medal.

Cross Country

In the County Cross Country Championships, Jess M, Bryony H and Ilona A (Year 7), Edythe O and Hannah C (Year 8), Fran H (Year 10), and Imogen R (Year 11) all produced very creditable performances.

The outstanding performance of the day was from Abi M (Year 11), who finished 3rd in Inter Girls and was selected to represent Herts at the English Schools National Competition.

Sarena S (Year 8) finished in 12th place in Junior Girls and was selected as reserve.

Netball

It’s been fantastic to enter so many teams into the A and B team District Tournaments, and three teams into the Senior Tournament. This is testament to how many students are coming out regularly to Netball Club.

Well done to all the Year 7 students who showed great teamwork whilst playing in the B team tournament. The Year 7 A team played remarkably in their first District Tournament, finishing in 1st place.

Well done also to all the Year 8 students who played in the B team tournament, particularly HGS 1 and HGS 2 who won their groups. Congratulations to the Year 8 A team who became District Champions by winning six games and drawing one.

Our Year 9 A team won all five games in their District Tournament. With a loss in the final, they came away with the Silver medal.

Well done to all the students who played in the Year 9 B team tournament with creditable performances.

The Year 10 team produced an outstanding performance, winning six out of their seven games at the District Tournament. When it came down to goal difference, they had to settle for the Bronze medal. Well done girls!

Football

It’s been great to have Melissa from Stevenage Football Club coming in to take some football training sessions for all years this term.

Well done to Year 7 who won all of their league games and finished 2nd in their District Tournament. Year 8 became District Champions, winning all of their games. Congratulations on a fantastic season!

A special well done to the Year 8 team for coming 4th in the Utilitia Cup where they represented Stevenage and played against schools from other regions.

A massive well done to Year 9 who have been training hard every week and came 2nd in their District Tournament. Congratulations!

Year 10 won all of their league games and came 2nd in their District Tournament. Well done!

Swimming

Well done to the swimming teams who competed in the District Swimming Gala.

Junior team = 1st

Intermediate team = 2nd

Overall results = 3rd

There were lots of individual medals won. Very well done to Evie T for getting a new record for 50m fly!

Hockey

Year 7

In their District Tournament our Year 7 team played some great hockey, with a number of near-misses on goal. They finished a very close 2nd, with the overall result coming down to the number of short corners awarded, as they had equal points to the overall winners.  Well done!

In their indoor tournament the B team finished 4th. The A team came 1st.  Well done all!

Year 8

Well done to our Year 8 A and B teams, who played well in their Indoor District Tournament. The A team won all of their matches to win Gold medals, and the B team defended well to get 3rd place.

Year 9

There were only two teams in the District Tournament, but HGS played really well to win the match and the tournament!! Well done!

We entered two teams into the Indoor Tournament. Some brilliant hockey played by both the A and B teams. The A team scored lots of goals, and Izzy made some great saves as GK, to help win the tournament! Congratulations to the B team on coming 3rd.

Year 10

The Year 10 hockey team showed great skills and teamwork to win their Indoor Tournament (sadly only one match). They also played brilliantly against some senior teams there that evening.

Seniors (Y11, 12 and 13)

Well done to our Y11, 12 and 13 players who hadn't all played together before, but demonstrated high quality hockey and teamwork to win their District Tournament. Thanks to Josie for stepping in as GK, and Imogen and Becky as on-the-day recruits! Well deserved Gold medals! Our team was undefeated and scored some great goals to win their Senior Tournament.

Sports Leaders

Year 11 Sports Leaders have been busy this term leading 60 Year 3 children at Whitehill Junior School, and they also hosted two festivals for 240 Year 3 - 6 pupils. A massive well done for all your hard work and dedication to make those events so successful.

Staff and student successes outside of school

It is always great to hear about your achievements outside of school, which we celebrate in our end of term assembly Sports Report.

We wish you a wonderful Easter, and all the best for any sporting endeavours!

Miss Evans, Head of PE
