SCHOOL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Message from the Headteacher

Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone had a good Easter break. The school trips, to Greece and skiing in Andorra, were a real success, and all the students were wonderful ambassadors for the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for this, and to thank the staff who organised and supported these valuable experiences.

It has been my absolute pleasure this week to deliver assemblies to every year group. The focus of the assemblies was revealing and explaining the newly defined school values.  You will recall from earlier newsletters that staff, students, parents/carers and trustees have all been involved in this process. It has been a genuine highlight to reveal these to the students and see, staring back at me, the very real embodiment of the values I described.

Now, I take equal pleasure in sharing them with parents and carers, as you also had a significant part in their development; I hope when you read these, they resonate with you too.

Hitchin Girls' School

Aspiration | Perseverance | Kindness | Respect | Positivity

Community - Family - Relationships

Our vision

To provide an exceptional education and opportunities for all, embracing innovation whilst proudly celebrating our history and traditions. Through upholding our values and identity, our community will thrive.

Our core values

Our values are Aspiration, Perseverance, Kindness, Respect and Positivity - all of which are underpinned by our community, our sense of family and the relationships we form with each other. We endeavour to demonstrate our values in all that we do.

Aspiration

We are inspired to be brave and ambitious in order to flourish as individuals and thrive as a community.

Perseverance

We have the determination and confidence to problem-solve and achieve. By learning from our experiences and supporting each other, we grow together.

Kindness

We care for each other with empathy, compassion and generosity. These are the strengths that bind us.

Respect

We value each other and our shared environment. By celebrating our diversity and upholding our traditions, we strive for equity.

Positivity

We approach school life with curiosity and energy. With our enthusiasm and creativity, we embrace opportunities.

Over the course of the term and next academic year we will develop the use of these values, interweaving them into school life. If you have any suggestions for how this could be done I would love to hear them.

On a different note, I have written to all families today outlining the arrangements for the next two days of industrial action, which will take place on Thursday 27 April and Tuesday 2 May.  Once again, I would like to thank you all for your understanding as we manage this situation and endeavour to minimise the disruption to learning.

Finally, I would like to wish Eid Mubarak to all of our community members celebrating the end of Ramadan.

Have a good weekend,

James Crowther - Headteacher

HGS Science Fair

About 80 of our Year 7 and Year 8 students participated in our Science Fair at the end of last term, where they were invited to present their scientific project / investigation, related to this year's theme of 'Time', in teams of up to four.

They were judged for their presentation skills and teamwork as well as the content and originality of the project. Well done to the winners in the various categories for impressing the judges, and to everyone who took part!

Easter trips

Thank you to all our staff involved in the overseas trips that took place over the Easter holidays, the ski trip to Andorra and the Classics trip to Greece. Thank you also to the students and families for making them such successful and memorable trips.
