NEUROSCIENCE WORKSHOP FOR Y13 PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS
This week, we had the privilege of welcoming Doctor Guy Sutton from Medical Biology Interactive to run a Neuroscience workshop with our Year 13 Psychology students. Guy discussed whether evidence suggests there is a criminal brain, looking at a number of notable cases from terrorist events such as Lockerbie and 9/11, to high profile case studies such as that of Oscar Pistorius and Aileen Wuornos. We debated the extent to which we can be held responsible for our actions if our biology renders higher order brain processes of empathy and regret impossible. We dissected a (sheep) brain and suddenly all the complex parts we have been learning about theoretically for the last eighteen months were visible in reality. It was magnificent!!
