Open Event Details
UPDATE 21/09/22 - All tickets have now sold out, but you can join Eventbrite's wait list via the below links. You will then be notified automatically if a place on one of our tours becomes available.
Each year, we hold open events when current Year 6 students and their parents/carers can visit HGS to help with their choice of secondary school. These events provide opportunities to meet staff, talk to our students and hopefully obtain a good understanding of how we operate.
In 2022 we will be holding three open mornings supported by a range of content on our Virtual Open Event webpage.
The open mornings will take place on Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 September, and Wednesday 5 October, when pre-booked tours will run between 9.15am and 11.00am. Places are limited to a maximum of 3 per family. Tours last approximately 45 minutes.
Please book via these Eventbrite links:
27 September - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/414529106717
29 September - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/414581042057
5 October - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/414582486377
Our Virtual Open Event webpage is now live, and includes welcome talks from the Headteacher, Head Girl team and other students, along with links to the school prospectus and a range of information about the school and secondary admission.
Please note that no parking is available on the school site for our open mornings.
Secondary Transfers for September 2023
The school participates in the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) co-ordinated scheme for admissions. All deadlines within this scheme must be adhered to by applicants. HCC will make offers of places on behalf of the school.
Further information, including the rules for admission, is available at: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions. On-time applications close on Monday 31 October 2022.
A copy of the determined admissions criteria for Hitchin Girls' School for 2023/2024 is available here.
Secondary allocation day is Wednesday 1 March 2023. If you applied online you will receive an email from HCC on this date. If you applied on paper then you will receive a letter in the post.
Accepting your place: if you are allocated Hitchin Girls’ School and wish to accept your place then you must do this either online or on the paper form provided by Wednesday 15 March 2023. Responses go directly to HCC and do not come back to the school.
Continued interest: if you are not allocated Hitchin Girls’ School and it was ranked higher than the school you have been allocated, then you will automatically be added to the continued interest list.
If you do not want to stay on this list then you must let the HCC Children’s Services Team know immediately.
All Local Authorities have a statutory duty to coordinate all in-year admissions (primary and secondary) for all maintained schools and academies. This means that all applications for, and allocations of, in-year places must be made via a child's home Local Authority.
All parents living in Hertfordshire who wish to make an in-year application must apply online to HCC the online appeals system and not by applying directly to schools. A paper application form can be requested from the Children Schools and Families Customer Service Centre, 0300 123 4043.
At transfer time, parents wishing to appeal who applied online should log into their online application and click on the link ‘register an appeal’. For those who did not apply online, please contact the Children Schools and Families Customer Service Centre on 0300 123 4043 to request an appeal pack.
A copy of the Department for Education Guidance for Parents document regarding admissions appeal panels is available here.
Appeals are to be lodged by 4pm on 29 March 2023.
Appeals will be heard between 2 May and 15 June 2023 (excluding 29 May - 2 June).
Appellants (the person who made the appeal) will be sent notification of their appeal hearing at least 14 calendar days in advance of the hearing (unless you have been asked to agree shorter timescales).
Appellants will be sent a copy of the school's case 7 working days in advance of the hearing.
Further information on the appeals process is available here.
