Science Careers Talks

We welcomed representatives from two very different Science-related fields of work, who gave their time to provide useful insights into the varied careers you can pursue from studying Sciences.

First we heard from representatives from international vehicle testing company UTAC based at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, which tests all types of motor vehicles in different conditions for safety and environmental impact. The tracks at Millbrook have also played host to a Bond movie and episodes of Top Gear amongst other TV productions. Thank you to our speakers who highlighted the range of opportunities at the organisation as well as their apprenticeship and work experience schemes, and who were inspiring role models for women in engineering.

This was followed by a visit from Dr Emma Shelmerdine, Senior Medical Writer for Lymphoma Action. She talked about the varied field of medical communications, how it marries scientific interest with creativity and the skills needed to succeed, as well as the particular challenges and rewarding aspects of her role at the cancer charity. Students had the chance to ask her questions as well - thank you for taking the time to come in and provide valuable insights into this career path.
